JRDG Company Special – Model 102
Model 102 (2007-2012)
Retail price in 2007 in Germany:
Black 1.798 euro
Silver 2.098 euro
Inside the 102 are 2 identical ICE-power 200ASC modules, which are lower powered- but newer versions than the 500ASP ones used in the 201’s, each with their own integrated switched power supply. There is not much Rowland here but you have to admit that even if it is completely ICE technology, it is still the prettiest application so far, plus it is very reasonably priced!
The model 102 sounds very good: neutral, fast, transparent and refined, and it is much more powerful than its diminutive size seems to indicate, driving Magnepan MG3.6 speakers with ease. Ultimately tonally a little on the dull side but still extreme value for money.
Model 102 together with the same-sized Capri. Of the two it is said that the Capri is the star of the show, but having heard most every other Rowland preamp ever made, I don’t share that opinion. To me, the 102 is the star of the couple.
The front panel seems to be the same as for every other Rowland product: a separate, solid slab of aluminium, bolted to the main enclosure that is also usually made from a solid block of aluminium. The 102’s front however only appears to be separate but is actually part of the same solid block from which the black part is made, just machined differently. Surely this helps save costs but it still looks as spectacular as ever.
Inside the 102 are two identical 200ASC ICE modules with integrated power supply.
Model 102 Features
One pair XLR input connectors for balanced system configurations. Same gain and input impedance characteristics are ensured whether XLR or RCA adapted inputs are used.
CE approved speaker output terminals require no tools for secure, low resistance connections.
Fully-balanced topology implemented in both input and output circuitry.
Low noise, high-current, switchmode power supply provides highest performance at any world-wide mains operating voltage and ensures consistent performance under all operating and AC line conditions.
Fully-balanced inputs provide universal compatibility with other components and eliminate ground loop noise and EMI.
High efficiency ICEpower® power conversion technology generates high output power with very little heat, promotes long component life and permits a relatively small physical size.
Low power consumption permits constant power-up operation to eliminate warm-up time.
Ultra-low resonance, structurally rigid chassis, precision-machined from a solid block of aircraft grade 6061-T6 aluminum.
Remote ON/OFF input jack allows amplifier standby operation from a remote source for inclusion into home theater (A/V) systems.
