Marantz CD 14 cd player with Feickert modification – Quick Impression
Difficult to say if it’s the Feickert influence I’m hearing or the intrinsic sound of the CD14 but this player is dynamic, bold, musical, lively and detailed. You could say the sound is like a Swoboda’d Sony but this one is definitely less technical sounding. The highs, however, are somewhat darker and the sound is drier (less fluid) than I’m used to from Marantz.
Hi Christiaan.
Hoe gaat het? Ken je me nog?
Ik ben indertijd in contact met je gekomen voor een versterker voor de B&W 804S SPEAKERS.
Ik heb al jaren een perreaux radiance 200i versterker . En cd1 speler.
Heb mijn marantz SA8400 Van Medevoort verkocht. Ik zoek nu een hoogwaardige stre armer- DAC.
Misschien kan je advies geven. Grt koen
Hi Koen, Ah, that’s a while ago! Regarding streamer/DAC’s, there are so many and it ties in too much with your personal taste and requirements for me to come up with recommendations. The best thing you can do is to first read my streamer/DAC reviews and choose a couple that you like. If you then share that and your preferences then I may be able to help you decide.
I have also a Marantz CD14. I made a total recap of the unit with very good caps from Panasonic FC series, Nichicone Muse and Bipolar version of the muse series, Elna Silmic 2. That made this player on a new level in sound stage. There was som caps that was going high on ESR and some have lost a little of the capasity
Yup, at this age, the requirement of recapping becomes an important factor to keep in mind. Interestingly, these players tend to play on and on even when several caps have gone below spec. But when it starts to sound tired, slow, undynamic, then you know it’s time for a recapping. And/or cleaning and recalibration.
