Marantz CD4000 CD Player – Quick Impression

Cheap and cheerful

Not high-end by any stretch of the imagination but neutral, rhythmic, lively and fast. For the money, it is simply a very good player and as a transport, it is quite a bit better than you’d expect. This player was given to me by a friend who removed it from a bar where it was used until it played no more. A quick cleaning of the lens made it come back alive and I now use this player as a source when running in other systems or cables.

10 years later and still used as a source on seemingly eternal repeat for running in other equipment, it just refuses to give the ghost!

Finally, the player seems to have attracted an illness. It still reads and plays CD’s but its digital output outputs no more…
