Very natural and neutral player with plenty of detail and pace. It keeps the perfect middle between detail/analytics and musicality but is somewhat boring for it. It is comparable to the 506-20 but better in certain aspects such as speed and detail. It is however not as relaxed and fluid as the 506.24 and can come across too businesslike, mostly because its bass, however agile, is thin and lacks some power. The talk at the time was that CD ROM mechs were so precise that it did not matter what kind was built in, especially with the use of Meridian’s special buffering/anti-jitter circuitry. Still, I could not get into the sound as I could with its forebear the 506.24. After purchasing the 507 new I only had it for a few months when I decided that its sound wasn’t for me, and I sold it again.
