Much better than expected at the price
A very affordable player that turns out to be much better than you would give it credit for. Even when compared to the excellent Audiomeca Enkianthus DAC, it doesn’t disappoint. It is not as detailed and focused as the Audiomeca and compared to more expensive components it misses out in resolving power but it makes up for this with sheer enthusiasm. The sound feels natural (not synthetic) and the overall impression is neither laidback nor relaxed. The only aspect taking away from neutrality is its treble which is very brightly lit. So much so that other DACs appear dark in comparison. It is never shrill or grainy however and could probably easily be compensated for with the right cabling.
Christiaan, I realize this post is from years ago but I’m curious if you’ve heard any other Vincent gear since. Reason I ask is someone recently recommended the Vincent SA-T7 preamp to me for use with Krell amps. I initially found it hard to believe such a reasonably priced preamp would work with Krell monoblocs but the person recommending it says it’s a wonderful match.
Sorry – I have only heard this Vincent product. Matching cheap and expensive equipment seems illogical, but I’ve made various insane combinations that do work, so you just never know.
